As April 2019 progresses, the U.S. will experience generally warmer comparisons to LY. Over the next week in particular, central and eastern locations will see temperatures climb well above normal for this time of year (and the same week in 2018).

For reference, last April in the U.S. was coldest since 2013 and driest since 2012. Colder trends in April 2018 -- along with some late-season snowfall and severe weather, deflated traffic levels and negatively affected demand for spring products and services.

For this month overall, Planalytics is projecting favorable weather impacts for seasonal merchandise and the DIY and Apparel retail sectors. Weather-Driven Demand projections for April 2019 include Fans (+20% nationally vs. LY), Lawn Mowers (+10% nationally vs. LY), Capris (+6% nationally vs. LY), Suncare Industry (+6% nationally vs. LY) and Clothing Store Traffic (+1.1% nationally vs. LY).
